Troubleshooting

This week I'm removing my editor's hat to put on my troubleshooter's hat, because I'm here to help you with a few struggles you might be having with the new site.

First, a good number of you have expressed a desire to see a listing of each week's newest illustrations like we offered on the "old" site. There are a few ways to do just that. First of all, when you scroll over the Find Sermon Illustrations tab on the PreachingToday.com homepage, a drop-down box will appear. Click on the option titled Newest Illustrations. This will take you to a page that lists ten illustrations. The first eight on that page are always going to be the newest illustrations we've just added that week. As you click through the remaining pages, you'll be able to see move through all our illustrations, newest to oldest. This section of the site can also be reached a second way. While visiting the Find Sermon Illustrations section of the site, scroll down to the second main box on the page—the one just below the box with the rotating images. The top tab in this second box is marked "Newest Illustrations." Click on that tab, and you will land on the same results page I just described—ten illustrations, the first eight of which are the newest editions to the site. If, however, you want to see just the eight newest illustrations all by themselves, you can do that, too. While visiting the Find Sermon Illustrations section of the site, scroll down to that second main box on the page, and while the "Newest Illustrations" tab is highlighted, in the lower right-hand corner of that second box, you'll see a link titled "Previous Weeks." Click on that link, and you'll land on a page that lists all the previous weeks of illustrations by date. Click on any given date, and the newest illustrations for that week alone will be listed. And finally, you can also get the complete list of newest illustrations in this very newsletter each week. Simply scroll down to the Illustrations section to see the hyperlinked titles.

Second, a few of you are probably wondering what the Connect with Culture tab is all about. Accessible through the second main tab below the logo, Connect with Culture is a new addition to our site that features articles, illustrations, and resources for holidays and other cultural events that will help preachers find where the gospel and culture intersect. Take time to explore it each week to find illustrations related to pop culture or cultural trends, skills articles and workshops that deal with issues regarding the intersections between gospel and culture, illustrations and other resources for holidays and special events, a Twitter-like feed of the top news stories that have illustrative material, and an expanded version of the News That Illustrates feature we run in the weekly illustrations.

As for other troubleshooting issues, I would suggest reading Brian Larson's Editor's Update column from last week. I think it will be immensely helpful for you as you get to know the new site.

And one more thing: We know that one of the things our members love the most is our collection of audio sermons. In fact, PreachingToday.com was born out of our original audio ministry, Preaching Today Audio. Remember Preaching Today Audio? For 25 years, quite a few of you waited anxiously to receive in the mail a new cassette tape (later a CD) with two new sermons and an audio workshop. That iteration of our audio ministry came to an end two years ago, but it continues on the new site. Each week, I would encourage you to pay attention to the newest sermon we've posted. Most of time—most of the time, not all of the time (it all depends on what we're able to get from the preachers)—the newest sermon will be available in written form and audio form. When all is said and done, then, you aren't just getting two new sermons a month like you were with Preaching Today Audio. You're getting double that. And you don't have to wait by your mailbox. Nice, eh? To see what I mean, check out a few of the sermons we've recently posted: Bryan Wilkerson's Encounter on Golgotha Road and Kevin Miller's How Christians Abandon God.

We hope you're loving the new site like we are. It continues to be our prayer that everything we offer inspires great biblical preaching.

Grace and peace,
