Let's Have Conversations

Terry Gross has done over 13,000 interviews in her life and is the host of "Fresh Air." She is an expert on talking to people, which is becoming rarer day by day. In the New York Times Magazine, Susan Barton talks with Gross about the art of opening up. As the story says, "In a culture in which we are all talking about ourselves more than ever, Gross is not only listening intently; she's asking just the right questions." For some celebrities even being interviewed by Terry Gross is a dream come true. Matthew Weiner, the creator of Mad Men is a frequent guest on "Fresh Air" but he said about the experience, "Oh, this is my fantasy of a conversation. I'm not even talking about people hearing it. I'm talking about actually having the conversation."

Possible Preaching Angle:

Maybe we should take some tips from Gross and become better listeners of others, rather than ourselves. Every conversation can be a fascinating experience. There are no empty conversations, they are real moments, live in them.
