Extinguishing Old Flames

Weddings in our church always include the lighting of a unity candle. At one recent rehearsal I was explaining the symbolism of the candle ceremony. "After the middle candle is lit, blowing out the two side candles means the two become one," I said.

"Oh," a guest admitted in surprise. "I thought it meant 'no more flames!'"
