True Manhood Begins with Fear

David Prince

David Prince

As we gear up for Father's Day, it's apparent that our culture is struggling with basic questions about sexuality and masculinity. Questions like: What is a man? How does a man live before God and others? In this week's featured sermon, a great Father's Day resource, David Prince explores the challenging picture of true manhood in Psalm 111-112. Rather than starting with our society's obsession with sexual freedom, Prince starts with the Bible's preoccupation with the fear of the Lord. Prince challenges men: "Be governed by the reality of the gospel. To the degree that you live based on superiority rather than grace, self-protection rather than leadership, and selfishness rather than generosity, we do not reflect him in the world." It's a stirring call for every man, including dads.

In this week's preaching skills article, Preaching Prof Lenny Luchetti asks a simple question: What makes a good sermon? If the sermon is a cake, what are the essential ingredients? Luchetti explores five must-have ingredients: Content, Communication, Character, Connection, and Christ. Luchetti writes, "Ultimately, what makes a good sermon good has much more to do with God than with the preacher." And yet, all the ingredients on his list are essential to good sermon making.
