Sinning in the Pulpit

It's bad enough to know that you're a sinner. But how do you handle it when you're sinning while you're preaching? You make some rude or anger-based comment. Or you catch yourself "enhancing the truth" in one of your illustrations. Or you're attracted to someone who seems to be hanging on every word (and I'm not talking about your spouse). In this week's skills article, Bill White addresses the sinner in the heart of every preacher. So unless you can shed your sin nature when you step into the pulpit, here are some practical ways to deal with your "stuff" as you preach.

This week we also feature an excellent sermon by one of our newest preachers, Dr. Matthew D. Kim, the assistant professor of preaching and ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. In his sermon "Panhandling for True Satisfaction," notice Dr. Kim's development of that one clear text-based Big Idea.

This week we also feature:

P.S. Next week watch for a special two-part series of previously unpublished sermons by the master preacher John Stott. You will be deeply blessed by this dear brother who mentored hundreds of young leaders across the globe.

Matt Woodley is the pastor of compassion ministries at Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton, Illinois.
