Startup Bets Against Your Marriage

The Chicago Tribune reported on a company in Seattle that will help fund your wedding with up to $10,000. Sounds great, especially with the cost of weddings going up! Where do all the recently engaged couples sign up? But there's something else to consider. "The catch: If your union crumbles, at six months or 25 years, you must pay them back—with interest." The startup company, called Swanluv, "will review your relationship and set an interest rate based on your compatibility." But the good news is your tragedy will help pay for another person's wedding. As the story says, "Swanluv's sustained growth, as the business model apparently stands now, depends on a whole lot of lovers breaking up." But the goal of Swanluv is to support "everlasting marriage," hence their name (because swans mate for life).
