The Emoji Bible

News came out about another new Bible translation that is available as of May 29, 2016 on Apple iBooks. Okay, this Bible isn't exactly on a par with the Latin Vulgate or Luther's Bible translation. The publishers are calling it "Bible Emoji: Scripture 4 Millennials." Here's a little taste of this doozey of a translation. Take a verse from Genesis 1—"The Lord saw the light, that it was good," for instance—and it becomes "[Smiling Face with Halo] saw the [Lightbulb], that is was [Thumbs Up]."

The anonymous creator, who is only described as the [Smiley Face with Sunglasses] emoji, sees this translation as a way to make the Scriptures resonate with young believers. The creator says, "Most of the original text is still there. It just swaps words commonly used as emoji. Hopefully it puts a little levity and fun into the text, and hopefully people use it for good. I think this makes sharing a Bible verse with your friends easier and more interesting."
