Gamer Keeps Game Console on for 20 Years

We often learn at a young age that all things come to an end—including life. And yet, somehow we are always doing things to try to prolong our life on earth. One videogamer has taken this to the extreme. A Twitter user by the name Wanikun announced recently that he left his 1994 Super Nintendo console on for more than 20 years, in order to not lose his progress in the game (some older game systems' memory depended on the battery left in an individual cartridge—after the battery was depleted, the only option to retain game data was to leave the console running). This translates to over an astonishing 180,000 hours of gameplay (though some of our kids might be near that mark … ).

Possible Preaching Angle:

Why would this young man (who is no longer so young) carry this out for so long? It's hard to say. Perhaps it can be traced to some residual longing for us to hold onto our accomplishments in this life for forever, despite the knowledge that we can't. Or maybe he just really liked that game.
