Teamwork Wins NCAA Championship
The Villanova Wildcats won the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, led by Ryan Arcidiacono, who was named the tournament's most outstanding player. But everyone was talking about Kris Jenkins, who hit the buzzer beating shot to win the game. But who set up the shot for Kris? Ryan. Ryan had been waiting his entire life for the chance to hit the game winning shot in the final seconds. Villanova practiced that play over and over again, and according to Kris' interview on ESPN Radio, Ryan took the final shot 80% of the time in practice. So as a true leader and servant, in the closing seconds of that championship game he made the best decision and passed the ball to his teammate.
As Ryan said in a postgame interview, "Nope, you don't ever dream about making the pass." But Ryan heard Kris call his name and Ryan saw that he had an open shot and that pass "set up one of the most stunning moments in NCAA tournament history."
As Jenkins said after the game, "Arch was supposed to shoot it because he's a senior and that's what seniors do when the final game's on the line. But he gave it to me, and I really can't believe it. It just shows what kind of person he is. All my teammates do a great job in giving me confidence. We don't care who gets the credit, don't care who shines."
