Watching You Tube Leads to Gold Medal
Julius Yego secured a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. A pretty inspiring feat for any athlete. But Yego is entirely self-taught, get this, with the help of You Tube. He watched videos of other top javelin throwers—Jan Zelezny and Andreas Thorkildsen, to name two. Why those two? Because they both won Olympic and world titles. Yego is from Kenya, a nation known for running. So it was hard for Yego to find a coach. As he said in an interview with CNN "I do not have a coach, my motivation comes from within. Training without a coach is not an easy thing."
Possible Preaching Angle:
He had the desire to throw the javelin, but he didn't have the training or the coach. But he knew who to watch to become better. Sounds a lot like the Christian life. We can have a desire to be more Christ-like, but if we don't know who to watch—Christ—then we lose our way. Rather than go to You Tube we have God's Word to train us to become more Christ-like. The Bible help us become spiritual champions for Christ.
