Why You Don't Want To Be Beautiful

How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people? Some of us may never know, but according to an article from the BBC, it's not all full lips and luscious eyelashes. While there are undoubtedly major social, educational, and professional benefits, including the statistical truth that good-looking people make more than comparable "less attractive" ones, there are downsides.

These downsides are the result of a phenomenon some call "the bubble." In the bubble, people assume that good looking people have it together in other ways too, and the resulting assumptions can be damaging. Doctors prescribe less pain medication for good-looking people, some gorgeous folks have trouble finding dates because others are intimidated to ask them out, and high-level jobs are often difficult for attractive women to land, because of institutional prejudice.

Possible Preaching Angle:

What's the bottom line here? Whether plain or gorgeous, we need to reach out to those around us as people, made in God's image, and delightful human combinations of beauty and ugliness.
