The Sparkly Psychology of Frozen

Disney's hit 2013 film Frozen is the highest-grossing animated film of all time, having captured the imaginations of millions of young princesses and princes around the world. But why did the franchise explode with such a storm of popularity?

CNN shares an interview with two psychologists (they happen to be sisters), trying to understand. What do they chalk the film's success up to? A combination of themes, like family relationships and feeling bad about yourself, that kids can easily connect with, the absence of a frightening villain like a witch, and the fun of magical snow-powers. But they name one of the deepest connections of the film with children with the desire to be "happy and free," a key theme of the movie.

Shouldn't the church be the place where those deep yearnings can meet the grace, healing, and affirmation of God? For kids, sure … But for grown-ups, too.
