Marriage Makes for Ministry

"Christian couples need to recapture the incredible potential of their relationships. If you are married, God did not make a mistake in bringing you together. Being married is not a cop-out, not a second-best situation. Marriage, in fact, offers unique and exciting opportunities for loving and serving the Lord.

Some Christians might say, 'Yes, it's nice to be married. It's nice to have the companionship. It's great to build a family and raise children for the Lord.' But they might still think, WHAT I'M DOING IS NOT AS COMMITTED, NOT AS DEVOTED, AS WHAT A SINGLE MISSIONARY IS DOING.

God's Word challenges that misconception. The best way any Christian can serve God is to glorify Him in the place God has called him or her. If God has called you to marriage, the ultimate service you can offer is to glorify Him as a married Christian. There's no way you can please God more. Accept your calling; embrace it; celebrate it; make the most of it. Oswald Chambers wisely said, 'Never allow the thought, I AM OF NO USE WHERE I AM; because you certainly can be of no use where you are not.'

The Bible also clearly tells us, 'God gives some the GIFT of a husband or wife' (1 Cor. 7:7b, TLB italics added), and 'The man who finds a wife finds a good thing; she is a blessing to him from the Lord' (Prov.18:22, TLB). God considers a spouse a gift and a blessing in serving Him! In fact, for Christians called to marriage, godly marriages offer many advantages in serving the Lord. The ministry advantages of marriage may not get much press. Few sermons or books talk about them. But they are real."
