During one of my earlier years in Nigeria, I had agreed to pick up a Scottish friend at her compound to take her to prayer meeting at Hillcrest School. As usual, I was late. I flew into Janet's compound and with her on board proceeded to rush on to the school. We had not gone far when Janet touched me gently on the arm and said firmly, "Dearie, if you dinna mind, I'd just as soon be ten minutes late for an appointment as ten years too early in eternity!"
