Baseball Pitcher Asks for Help
One of the most difficult things for a grown adult to do is to say, "I need help"—especially if you're a celebrity athlete. However, that is exactly what New York Yankees all-star pitcher C.C. Sabathia recently admitted. His weakness? Alcohol. "Today I am checking myself into an alcohol rehabilitation center to receive the professional care and assistance needed to treat my disease," Sabathia said in a statement. "It hurts me deeply to do this now, but I owe it to myself and to my family to get myself right. I want to take control of my disease, and I want to be a better man, father and player." The pitcher's withdrawal from the team came just before they lost in the 2015 American League Wild Card Playoff game.
Possible Preaching Angle:
While many might have been surprised by such an admission from a high-profile player, the Bible says that is exactly what we should expect. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," says Paul. Even professional athletes, even Christians, and especially us.
