Elite College Fails to Impress Potential Student

Dave Goetz writes:

A friend and his wife recently drove 1,000 miles to take their daughter to visit a college on the East coast. The tour had been set up in advance. As my friend said, "We were motivated; we were giving up our spring break to see this place. If we chose this school, we'd be spending over $25,000 for four years straight. I walked onto that campus with, essentially, a $100,000 check in my pocket."
The campus—like most colleges—contained a mixture of beautiful new buildings and suboptimal old ones.
