"The Devil's Own": Integrity Tested

In the movie The Devil's Own Harrison Ford plays an ethical New York City cop named Tom O'Meara. Almost halfway through the film, Tom and his partner Eddie chase a teenager caught trying to steal a car radio. The thief shoots at them twice and then throws away the gun. Tom stops to retrieve the gun while Eddie runs past him. Suddenly, Tom hears a shot. Moments later, standing over the lifeless body of the teenager, Tom says to his partner, "He's dead, man. Half his face is gone. What happened?"

Eddie explains, "He was getting away. ...
