Sermon Outline:

Introduction

In our imaginations we tend to view Jesus as an adult the same way we view him as a baby—a mild, sweet-natured, and gentle savior.

I. Jesus said he didn't come to bring peace, but a sword.

II. The sword is an instrument of division.

III. We must place Christ above our families.

IV. We must place Christ above ourselves.

Conclusion

He did not come to make us feel better about ourselves, but rather as a threat to every illegitimate ruler in our lives.
