Well-articulated. I believe this is a Catholic thing too, at least in Hispanic culture, all year-round. They call God, Diosito, in the diminutive, instead of Dios, so as to tone down His all-pervading power. Don't want to offend anyone with His awesome presence, now do we?
Crucifixes pose the same problem. Someone needs to take Jesus off the cross, cuz that was a long time ago! He is risen! Preach it!
A great reminder for preachers who are tempted to recycle old sermons this time of year.
Great reminder this time of year. It is not only seasonal amnesia, but seasonal rut as we preachers struggle to creatively use the same Christmas texts each year. Thanks Ryan for fresh suggestions!
