Introduction:
- We come in to worship; we go out to witness.
- When we actively worship God, being a witness for him is natural.
- When we are actively witnessing, worshiping him is natural as well.
- God opens hearts in the presence of worship and in the power of worship.
God opened the heart of a sincere seeker (Acts 16:11–15).
- Paul and his companions arrived in Philippi.
- On the Sabbath, they went to a place by the riverside for prayer and worship.
- Paul and his friends found women there who were seekers of God.
- Jesus had changed Paul's pharisaical attitude toward women.
- Lydia was seeking the Lord the best way she knew how.
- There are sincere seekers like Lydia today who are waiting for us to give a witness.
- Lydia worshiped God, and the Lord opened her heart.
- Lydia and her household became part of the household of faith.
- How often seekers are saved when they find his presence in authentic worship!
- The power of the Spirit of God in worship will touch invited guests' hearts.
God opened the heart of a sadistic skeptic (Acts 16:25–34).
- Paul cast a demonic spirit out of a fortune-telling slave girl, enraging her masters.
- Roman magistrates commanded Paul and Silas to be beaten with rods.
- In prison, Paul and Silas worshiped God despite their brutal circumstances.
- After an earthquake, the jailer despaired but was kept from suicide by Paul.
- The jailer cried out, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
- Paul gave the gospel in a nutshell: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
- The jailer and all his family were baptized.
- Worship not only opens the hearts of seekers, but skeptics as well.
- Skeptics today are most often moved by worship outside the walls of a church.
- When worship is our lifestyle, the skeptics notice.
- Illustration: A family with a child with leukemia lived out their worship lifestyle in the hospital.
- Unbelievers are amazed by God's power in worship, and God opens many of their hearts to Jesus.
A woman truly worships (John 4:20–28).
- Genuine worship takes place on two levels: emotionally and intellectually.
- When the Samaritan woman mentioned a coming Messiah, Jesus said, "I who speak to you am he."
- The woman ran back into the city, having found the spirit and the truth.
A woman truly witnesses (John 4:29, 39–42).
- The women began to witness to them.
- Their simple question—"Could this be the Christ?"—challenged the men to see for themselves.
- Many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman.
- A revival began because a woman with a bad reputation shared her newfound faith.
- The embers of a fire burn hot and long when stacked together.
- Worship gets a fire going inside that motivates us to share the gospel.
- When we have been with Jesus, it will be evident to those around us.
- Illustration: A golf pro grumbled that Billy Graham "shoved religion down his throat," not by saying anything, but just because he was there.
- May we all burn so bright!
