Introduction
· Our priorities in prayer tell us much about the content of our hearts.
· In Ephesians 3:14–21, Paul discloses his priorities in prayer.
We should pray for strength.
· We need to be spiritually strengthened in our inner being (Ephesians 3:14–17).
· Our constant prayers for each other should be that God would gift each of us with spiritual strength.
· We need to be strengthened “according to the riches of his glory.”
- Illustration: If we got a $10,000 gift from a millionaire, it would be a generous gift “out of his” millions; but if he gave us a million dollars, his gift would be “according to” his ability to give.
· We need to be strengthened with might through his spirit.
- Romans 8:5-5; 1Timothy 4:8; 2 Corinthians 4:16
· We need to be strengthened to allow the quality of the presence of Jesus to dwell in our hearts though faith.
- Illustration: Robert Munger wrote an allegory, My Heart Christ’s Home, about Christ entering every room of our being and cleaning up our sin and guilt, so he could feel at home in our lives.
We should pray for love.
· We need to be rooted and grounded in love (John 13:34).
· We need to ask for spiritual understanding in order to comprehend the depth of Christ’s love for us.
We should pray for fullness.
· We need to be filled with all the fullness of God; to overflow like a cup.
· Are we willing to say, “Lord, fill me up so that my life is all you and none of us.”?
-
Galatians 2:20
· We need to be filled with his glory.
· This doxology in verses 20 and 21 teaches us 7 things about God.
Conclusion
We need to learn to pray for strength, love, and fullness, and when we do, the Lord will receive “glory in the church.” |
