Topic: How to experience the fullness of the Spirit-filled life

Introduction:

  • Humans are made in such a way that they cannot be satisfied with only the material world.
  • If there is more to our existence than what the eye can see and the hands can touch, the ones who are most to be pitied are those who spend their lives obsessed exclusively with material things.
  • Big Idea: We come alive spiritually through the Holy Spirit, and he is the difference that makes a difference in our lives.
  • Illustration: May quotes Campus Crusade for Christ founder Bill Bright: "If there were only one truth I could share with the Christian world, it would be 'how to be filled with the Holy Spirit,' for there is no single truth that is more important to the believer."
Learn more about the Holy Spirit.
  • 1 Corinthians 12:1
  • Don't overlook the spiritual side of life.
  • We must be able to reach an informed level of balance in our spiritual lives, so that we aren't tossed around by everyone else's opinion.
  • The Bible tells us everything we need to know about the nature and work of the Holy Spirit.
Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • 1 Corinthians 12:13
  • "Being filled" with the Holy Spirit means "being led by" or "controlled by" the Holy Spirit.
  • Galatians 5:16
  • If you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, you must ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit.

Discover your spiritual gift and use it.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:7
  • Everyone has been given a spiritual gift that can be used to serve others.
  • You don't have to be talented to be gifted.
  • Using your spiritual gift puts purpose into everything you do.

Conclusion:

  • Jesus told about the work the Spirit would perform in our lives.
  • Ask God today to fill you with the Holy Spirit so that you can use the gifts he has given you to build up others and glorify the name of Jesus.
