Topic: The proper way to worship God

Introduction
  • Illustration: A visitor from another planet would see that praise is the essence of worship.
Praise is an expression of enjoyment.
  • God does not demand we tell him how great he is.
  • People instinctively praise what they enjoy.
  • Praise is the spontaneous overflow of enjoyment.
  • God delights in us, and we are to return that delight.
Some worship is displeasing to God.
  • He is displeased when we "go through the motions."
  • He is displeased when we place our traditions above him.
  • Illustration: The Church of the Holy Radiator.
  • God does want a certain kind of worship.
God must be worshiped in truth.
  • Jesus proclaims, "I am the truth."
  • Any Christian worship is centered in Jesus.
  • Everything we know about Jesus comes from Scripture.
God must be worshiped in spirit.
  • We offer ourselves to God.
  • We acknowledge God as creator.
  • We acknowledge Christ as redeemer.
Conclusion:
  • Praise is our enjoyment of God.
  • Worship is the offer of our lives to God.
