Text: Mark 9:3—37

Topic: How to be a great people for God

Introduction:

  • Illustration: College basketball team's motto: "Good people do for themselves; great people do for others."
  • In America today, the attitude is more that great people do for themselves; good people do for others.
  • Jesus' teaching about greatness is opposite to that attitude.
Great people put others first.
  • Philippians 2
  • Salvation would never have been accomplished if Jesus hadn't put others first.
Great people serve all.
  • We must not discriminate in our service toward other people.
Great people serve with no thought of reward.
  • If Christian faith is taking hold in your life, you're going to be able to serve a "little one" just as you would anyone else.

Great people depend on God to give them what they need to serve him.

  • Genesis 18:1012
  • 1 Kings 17
  • Luke 9:12
  • God asks us to do things we obviously cannot do so that it's clear he's done it all.

Conclusion:

  • Illustration: The Jesus Family of northern China was driven to their knees in dependence upon God.
  • If we will call out to God for his vision, we will be a great church not just a good church.
