Text: Matthew 5:27—30

Topic: How to achieve sexual righteousness

We must acknowledge and confess our sexual fallenness.

    • Lust is as much a sexual sin as adultery. (Matthew 5:2730)
    • All people have been affected by sexual fallenness.

Accept God's gift of human sexuality.

    • Sexuality is a created gift from God. (Matthew 19:4)
    • Righteousness is the presence of right attitudes about that gift.

Keep God's standards of purity.

    • Restrict sex to the permanent commitment of marriage. (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
    • Singles have a unique struggle in this area.

Fulfill the marital sexual relationship.

    • The marital sexual relationship is a G duty to one another. (1 Corinthians 7:34)
    • Fulfilling sexual relationships take effort.

Illustration: Ortberg shares the story of disastrous events from his own honeymoon, illustrating his nave assumption that the marital sexual relationship comes easily.

    • Sexual relationships often need healing before finding fulfillment.

Teach your children godly sexuality.

    • God designed the family as the primary place for sexual education. (Deuteronomy 6:67)
    • Awkwardness cannot prevent faithful training.

Illustration: Ortberg humorously illustrates how his grandparent's hesitation at training their son led to his dad's misunderstanding of sexual righteousness.
