Top Model Overwhelmed by Performance Anxiety

At just 20 (as of January 2017), Gigi Hadid is modeling's "It" girl, said Judith Newman in Allure. But while she seems at ease in front of the camera, Hadid is often a nervous wreck. "I always get made fun of on social media because my voice shakes,"' she says. "It's because of my anxiety."

How does she deal with it? "Screaming into pillows is good," Hadid says with a laugh. Before a recent beach shoot, "I walked out and just screamed to the ocean." Hadid is young, she's rich, and she's dating former One Direction heartthrob Zayn Malik—what on earth's to worry about? Fame today brings constant online and social media criticism, and it can be vicious—her bottom's too big, her catwalk stride too clumpy. "[I] feel almost suffocated by the world and the world's opinions," Hadid says. "Sometimes I have to literally sit myself down and be like, 'You are a good person. You go into everything you do with a good heart and with good intentions.'"
