Most Nations Are Still at War

God made the world for peace and yet we've turned peace into war (Isaiah 2:4). The Institute for Economics and Peace, an independent, non-partisan, non-profit think tank, published for the 10 time its Global Peace Index 2016. Here are some of the reports findings.

  • Only 10 nations in the world are currently not at war.
  • Over the past 10 years, 81 countries have become more peaceful and 79 have become less peaceful. (Page 9)
  • 101,406 deaths in battle, an increase from 19,601 since 2008. (Page 24)
  • The UNHCR recorded 57 million refugees, displaced peoples, and others of concern. (Page 24)
  • Violent crimes cost $1,876 for every person in the world, a total of $13.6 trillion dollars. This figure represents 13.3 percent of the world's total economic activity. (Pages 42-43)

Possible Preaching Angles: We've created weapons and learned war, but Isaiah 2:1-5 gives us a word hope. One day, God will take our weapons of death and make them instruments of life. One beautiful tomorrow he will teach us his way of peace again.
