Actress Viola Davis on Perfectionism

Actress Viola Davis, the star of How to Get Away With Murder, recently commented in AARP: "The work of acting is fantastic, but being a celebrity sometimes makes me tense and anxious. Expectations, not meeting expectations, criticism—it really hurts."

When filming the movie Doubt with Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, the three actors shared their common insecurities. "With every new job you worry that you'll be found out as the hack you are," Davis explains. "This will be the big failure that takes you down." Davis says that fear is an occupational hazard: "It drives you to perfectionism, which you never achieve anyway."
